On the needles: (00:43)

Gigi has been working on vanilla socks with afterthought heels out of the StitchJones "Gene Simmons" colorway. Jasmin is working on the Twist cardigan for Meghan. Gigi put another couple of repeats on her Heart to Heart scarf by Sivia Harding.

Jasmin is knitting her Cece out of the Abstract Fiber Alto in "Spinach". Gigi is continuing to work on the Maia shawl by Rosemary Hill. Jasmin is still working on her Supernatural Socks and *did* finish them today. Gigi has finished her Marta Cardigan by Julie Weisenberger.

Welcome back, Brenda!

Mother Knows Best: (15:05)

We talk about throwing vs picking, economy of movement (therbligs!), and muscle memory. We mention the Yarn Harlot Knitting video:

Jasmin mentions The Knitter's Handbook.

When Knitting Attacks: (29:46)

Gigi's Aeolian shawl runs short. Jasmin's Cece is attacked by Komodo vs Cobra. Gigi can't get gauge on her Cassidy.

Straw into Gold: (38:68)

Jasmin talks about the Norwegian Top from the Crown Mountain Farms fiber of the month club.

  1. Jasmin your notes say that you discussed how types of knitting saves time, economy of movement but I sure didn't hear that on this episode. I listened twice. Am I missing something? Mother Knows Best was about beads, buying, trying the yarn in the hole etc. I would love to hear the topice mentioned though. Love you podcast.

  2. Jasmin, it sounds like you're doing "combined knitting" - check out Grumperina's page about it, and especially the conversion table which tells you how to adjust decreases for that style of knitting.

  3. I must say as a new knitter that was the first time I have seen a visual on the throwing vs. picking. Quite amazing! Thank you for introducing me to something new!!

  4. Jasmin, I do my purl like you too! I found Anne Modesitt's website when I started knitting in the round and found out my knit stitches were all twisted! I still purl this way because it saves so much time. Thanks for the workaround for the k2tog decrease.

  5. I just got to this episode (I started at the beginning episode around the beginning of the year). You mentioned Portuguese knitting in the Mother Knows Best section. I live in Portugal and while many of the ladies here do wrap their yarn around their neck, many of them do not. Instead they use a safty pin attatched at their shoulder to hold the yarn instead of around the neck. Many people here also use a set of needles that look like crochet hooks instead of needles like are used in the US. Also they do work up a lot of speed while knitting. If you would like to see the technique in person here is a link to the video I found on You Tube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gzfYS9_t27k
