The Homestead Hobbyist not only designs and dyes custom blends of fiber for a unique spinning experience, he also designs custom yarn. Milled and spun in small batches, the Crime Scene collection gives knitters and crocheters criminally decadent yarn with colorways such as Bloodstain; Suit Up, It’s A Mess In There; Tire Tracks; and Chalk Outline. 18.5 micron Merino, Shetland, and Mulberry Silk combine to make a soft, strong, and sleek 3-ply yarn, available in both DK and fingering. This is one crime you won’t mind being caught red-handed for!

Named for the Three Fates and the Three Graces in Greek Mythology, Infinite Twist Fates and Graces are three-packs of cake-dyed gradient yarns. They are sisters (from the same dye lot), but not triplets. Each cake is 200 yards long, and knits up into five unique stripes. Variegated, speckled, or semi-solid, each stripe brings something new to your needles. To showcase these gorgeous gradients, Infinite Twist has worked up an easy Bias Scarf Kit featuring Fates and Graces. If you can k2tog and m1, you can knit this scarf! Perfect for purse- or travel-knitting, and available in the Infinite Twist shop.

Jasmin was working on a short dpn, and she lost a few stitches on Genevieve's Hearthstone pullover.

Also, her spinning got tangled on the dogs, and Jasmin reminisces about the time the dogs were puppies and made off with a ball of Tess microfiber ribbon.

Akerworks Logo 2012-1223_zps4og3eqpq Those of you familiar with Akerworks™ products may already know Akerworks™ bobbins were designed by an engineer and an architect to make spinning enjoyable and relaxing. You also may know that you can choose among twenty colors and six styles for the 3D-printed whorls—or that the bobbins break down for easy travel and storage. But… did you know that Akerworks™ bobbins hold more fiber, for most styles, than the related manufacturer’s bobbin? Akerworks™: We like making things.

Week 5: Clean your wheel
Dust, use oil soap, wood conditioner (if appropriate) wood beams ,or this from Brittany. Get all the fiber and yuck out of the gears/metal bits. Always wipe the maiden clean and oil (we really like oil pens) between uses to keep stuff from collecting there. Jasmin likes shop towels (the blue paper towels) for spinning. Jasmin also likes Akerworks bobbins
