They especially seem to favor this style in chunky or worsted weight: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/morning-walk-headband-earwarmer . They usually have a knit flower or bow on them, of the same color as the main headband, but sometimes with beads or sequins added. It is done by Pam Allen and Hannah Fettig and is knitting basics for everyone. Their first podcast was about gauge and swatches.
